Branch Supervisor, Newcastle Branch

I joined Helphire in March 2004, and have been at the branch since it first opened, seeing it grow from a fleet of thirty to over four hundred vehicles. My role is to supervise the day-to-day running of the branch, including the allocation of jobs to drivers and look after things if a problem arises.

I trained as a motor mechanic and worked in a garage for three years. I've always been ambitious, so when I was offered the chance to work for a relative in his dismantling business I took it. I worked in this business for the next eighteen years, eventually becoming a director. Eventually, this business was sold.

From the start I've found the atmosphere at Helphire very friendly, with the branches always helping each other out. At the Newcastle branch we always try to have the drivers in at lunchtime on a Friday so that we can eat together and have a bit of a laugh (and more often than not discuss the fortunes of Newcastle United). I have been on numerous training courses, including management skills and appraisal training. I can honestly say that the company has invested a lot of time and money into my development.
