Working and Living in Bristol

With 400,000 people Bristol is the UK's ninth most populated city, and one of the main centres of culture, employment and education in the region.

In its earliest days, the city grew up from the commercial Port of Bristol, which has now moved to Avonmouth and Portbury. In more recent years the economy has been built on the aerospace industry; the city centre's docks having been regenerated as a centre of heritage and culture, and featuring a lively crop of restaurants, cafes, bars, cinemas and learning centres.

Bristol is also famous for its arts and creative industries - music and film being particularly strong - and was a finalist for the 2008 European Capital of Culture. Links are also good, with Bristol International Airport 20 minutes from the centre, Cardiff just over the water and the M4 (and fast train routes) straight to London.
